Afrofuturism: Black Joy and Black Resilience
In THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH, history is a never-ending cycle of calamities that humans can only survive through art, literature, and ideas. Afrofuturism explodes the notion of historical cycles of oppression. It invites Black people to draw upon the history and cultures of the African diaspora to inform speculative, liberatory future worlds. Click the PDF icon for a post-show lesson plan, including a worksheet for students, that relates Afrofuturism to LCT’s production of THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH. In this lesson, students will learn what Afrofuturism is and write a poem about their own “imagined future.”
